Venice is flooding. New Orleans has flooded. This isn't news. What is news is that residents' commitment to these unique cities is generating creative ways to deal with rising sea levels and more frequent flooding.

This radio documentary shares the sounds of "acqua alta" (high water) in Venice and what it means to shopkeepers and residents. It also presents a vision of New Orleans as a city with canals similar to those of Venice.

As places on the edge, and written off by many as being lost, Venice and New Orleans instead have insight and experience to offer other coastal cities dealing increasingly with flooding.
